EWANGELIA - Łk 1, 67-79 (Nawiedzi nas z wysoka Wschodzące Słońce)

Zachariasz, ojciec Jana, został napełniony Duchem Świętym i zaczął prorokować, mówiąc:
«Błogosławiony Pan, Bóg Izraela,
bo lud swój nawiedził i wyzwolił,
i wzbudził dla nas moc zbawczą
w domu swego sługi, Dawida:
Jak zapowiedział od dawna
przez usta swych świętych proroków,
że nas wybawi od naszych nieprzyjaciół
i z ręki wszystkich, którzy nas nienawidzą;
Że naszym ojcom okaże miłosierdzie
i wspomni na swe święte przymierze –
na przysięgę, którą złożył
ojcu naszemu, Abrahamowi.
Da nam, że z mocy nieprzyjaciół wyrwani,
służyć Mu będziemy bez trwogi,
w pobożności i sprawiedliwości przed Nim
po wszystkie dni nasze.
A ty, dziecię, zwać się będziesz
prorokiem Najwyższego,
gdyż pójdziesz przed Panem przygotować Mu drogi;
Jego ludowi dasz poznać zbawienie
przez odpuszczenie grzechów,
dzięki serdecznej litości naszego Boga,
z jaką nas nawiedzi z wysoka Wschodzące Słońce,
by oświecić tych,
co w mroku i cieniu śmierci mieszkają,
aby nasze kroki skierować na drogę pokoju».

MEDYTACJA

Po odzyskaniu mowy, Zachariasz zaczyna entuzjastycznie wychwalać Boga za dobro, jakim obdarza swój lud. Pomyślmy o rzeczach, sytuacjach lub osobach, które nas zachwycają, fascynują, za które czujemy wdzięczność. Wsłuchajmy się w to, co w odpowiedzi na tę myśl dzieje się w naszym sercu...

Zachariasz wspomina sytuacje, w których Bóg ratował swój lud od lęku, grzechu i przemocy. Porównuje przyjście Chrystusa do wschodzącego słońca. Możemy zaprosić Boga do tych obszarów naszego życia, w których najbardziej potrzebujemy Jego zbawiennej bliskości...

"Jego ludowi dasz poznać zbawienie przez odpuszczenie grzechów" (Łk 1, 77). Ten werset jest fragmentem modlitwy, jaką wygłosił Zachariasz napełniony Duchem Świętym. W tym fragmencie możemy zobaczyć prawdziwą istotę misji Jana Chrzciciela. Misja ta polega na służbie, której celem jest doprowadzenie człowieka do spotkania ze Chrystusem...

Jan symbolicznie będzie udzielał chrztu nawrócenia, ale to Chrystus, jako jedyny, jest w stanie przejąć i odpuścić nasze grzechy, dzięki miłości jaką nas obdarza...

Pieśń Zachariasza błogosławi przeszłość i prorokuje na przyszłość. Jest to modlitwa ‘Wschodzącego Słońca’, rozpoczynająca nowy dzień, który nie ma końca. Bóg ‘dziś’ nawiedza swój lud, obwieszcza miłosierdzie, wyzwala z rąk ‘nieprzyjaciół’, odpuszcza grzechy, rozjaśnia mroki śmierci. Przede wszystkim On dotrzymuje swojej obietnicy. Jest wierny...

Narodziny Jana, który ‘utoruje drogę’ Mesjaszowi, widziane są jako element całej historii zbawienia. Mało spektakularne i pozornie niezauważone zdarzenia dla tych, którzy odczytują je w Duchu, stają się ‘nawiedzeniem’ Boga, który wypełnia swój zbawczy plan...

Miłosierdzie jest ‘świtem nowego dnia’. Ewangelista Łukasz, zwany piewcą łagodności Chrystusa, jest apostołem Bożego miłosierdzia. Czynne miłosierdzie, okazywane potrzebującym, jest znakiem przynależności do Chrystusa, świtem dnia ‘z wysoka Wschodzącego Słońca’...

Zachariasz wypowiada słowa kantyku 'Benedictus', nazywanego tak od pierwszego jego słowa w wersji łacińskiej. Pierwsza część mówi o Bożym zbawieniu
w osobie Mesjasza, a druga o synu Zachariasza – Janie, który będzie Jego poprzednikiem...

To wielkie ryzyko – zaprosić Go, aby przyszedł do naszego życia. „Światło, z wysoka Wschodzące Słońce”. Czasem łatwiej żyć w półmroku, 'po swojemu', coś niby widzisz na zewnątrz, ale jednocześnie nie widać w nas i w najbliższym otoczeniu brudu, zła. Czujemy się dzięki temu złudnie bezpiecznie. Nie da się tak jednak na dłużej...

Słońce daje światło i ciepło, a w konsekwencji życie. Zaryzykujmy. Żyjmy po Bożemu, ewangelicznie tam, gdzie jesteśmy. Niech On rodzi się i przychodzi na świat, niech przychodzi w nas i przez nas...

Zachariasz przez około dziesięć miesięcy był niemy, wyłączony w pewien sposób ze świata. Wcześniej bowiem zabrakło mu ufności, że wraz z Elżbietą będą mogli zostać rodzicami. Jednak w ósmym dniu po narodzeniu, kiedy rodzina i znajomi zebrali się, by obrzeżać i nadać dziecku imię, Zachariasz, po wypowiedzeniu imienia 'Jan', odzyskał mowę i został napełniony Duchem Świętym...

Prowadzony przez Ducha Bożego, Zachariasz wywyższył Boga Izraela, który jest wierny przymierzu i przysiędze, jaką złożył Abrahamowi. Dziecię Jezus jest Światłem, które oświetla wszystkich, a my jesteśmy tuż przed Jego wschodem. Obyśmy Je przyjęli z miłością do naszych serc, rodzin, do naszych domów.
I otworzyli się na pokój, który zwiastuje całej ziemi...

Wigilijne czuwanie kojarzy się nam z wyglądaniem nadchodzącego Chrystusa, przedwiecznej Światłości, która rozprasza mroki grzechu i rozświetla ciemności życia. To kulminacyjny punkt adwentowego czuwania...

Stajenka to symbol nędzy i słabości, ludzkiego niedomagania i odrzucenia. To miejsce, do którego nikt bez potrzeby nie przychodzi, nikt w nim nie chce być.
I właśnie to miejsce wybrał Bóg, by narodził się tam Jego Syn. I oto przedziwna światłość rozświetla przestrzeń i przemienia ją w miejsce, do którego pragną zmierzać wszyscy...

Bóg rodzący się w stajence mówi człowiekowi: 'Nie jesteś sam. Przyszedłem przynieść ci otuchę i wytchnienie. Przyszedłem przemienić twoją biedę w miejsce spotkania Boga z człowiekiem'...

...Jezu, proszę o głębokie przekonanie, że Ty możesz mnie zbawić... Proszę o łaskę uważnych oczu, które widzą przyjście Boga... Dziękuję za dar wiary, który otrzymałem na chrzcie świętym...

Christmas Eve

GOSPEL - Lk 1, 67-79 (The Rising Sun will visit us from on high)

Zechariah, John's father, was filled with the Holy Spirit and began to prophesy, saying:
"Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
for he has visited and redeemed his people,
and has raised up a saving force for us
in the house of his servant David:
as he said long ago
by the mouth of his holy prophets,
that he would save us from our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us;
that he would show mercy to our fathers
and remember his holy covenant,
the oath which he swore
to our father Abraham.
He will grant us, delivered from the hand of our enemies,
to serve him without fear,
in piety and righteousness before him
all our days.
And you, child, will be called
the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
and to make known to his people salvation,
through the forgiveness of sins,
through the tender mercy of our God,
with which the rising sun will visit us from on high,
to enlighten those
who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
to guide our steps into the way of peace".

MEDITATION

After regaining his speech, Zechariah begins to enthusiastically praise God for the goodness he bestows upon his people. Let us think of things, situations or people that delight us, fascinate us, for which we feel grateful. Let us listen to what happens in our hearts in response to this thought...

Zechariah recalls situations in which God saved his people from fear, sin and violence. He compares the coming of Christ to the rising sun. We can invite God into those areas of our lives where we most need His saving closeness...

"You will make known to his people salvation by the forgiveness of sins" (Lk 1:77). This verse is a fragment of a prayer uttered by Zechariah filled with the Holy Spirit. In this fragment we can see the true essence of John the Baptist's mission. This mission consists of service, the purpose of which is to lead man to an encounter with Christ...

John will symbolically administer the baptism of conversion, but it is Christ, as the only one, who is able to take over and forgive our sins, thanks to the love he gives us...

Zechariah's song blesses the past and prophesies the future. It is a prayer of the 'Rising Sun', beginning a new day that has no end. God 'today' visits his people, proclaims mercy, frees from the hands of 'enemies', forgives sins, and illuminates the darkness of death. Above all, He keeps His promise. He is faithful...

The birth of John, who will ‘pave the way’ for the Messiah, is seen as an element of the entire history of salvation. Unspectacular and seemingly unnoticed events for those who read them in the Spirit become a ‘visitation’ of God, who fulfills his saving plan...

Mercy is the ‘dawn of a new day’. The evangelist Luke, called the singer of Christ’s gentleness, is the apostle of God’s mercy. Active mercy, shown to those in need, is a sign of belonging to Christ, the dawn of the day ‘of the Sun Rising from on high’...

Zachariah utters the words of the canticle 'Benedictus', named after its first word in the Latin version. The first part speaks of God’s salvation in the person of the Messiah, and the second about Zachariah’s son – John, who will be His forerunner...

It is a great risk – to invite Him to come into our lives. “Light, the Sun Rising from on high”. Sometimes it is easier to live in semi-darkness, 'in your own way', you can see something on the outside, but at the same time you cannot see the dirt and evil inside you and in your immediate surroundings. Thanks to this, we feel deceptively safe. However, it cannot last long...

The sun gives light and warmth, and consequently life. Let us take a risk. Let us live in God's way, in the Gospel where we are. Let Him be born and come into the world, let Him come in us and through us...

Zachariah was mute for about ten months, excluded in a way from the world. Before that, he had lacked confidence that he and Elizabeth would be able to become parents. However, on the eighth day after birth, when family and friends gathered to circumcise and give the child a name, Zechariah, after saying the name 'John', regained speech and was filled with the Holy Spirit...

Guided by the Spirit of God, Zechariah exalted the God of Israel, who is faithful to the covenant and oath he made to Abraham. Child Jesus is the Light that illuminates everyone, and we are just before His rising. May we welcome Him with love into our hearts, families, and homes. And open ourselves to the peace that He heralds for the whole earth...

The Christmas Eve vigil is associated with the expectation of the coming Christ, the eternal Light that dispels the darkness of sin and illuminates the darkness of life. This is the culmination of the Advent vigil...

The stable is a symbol of misery and weakness, human weakness and rejection. It is a place where no one comes without need, no one wants to be there. And this is the place that God chose for His Son to be born. And here is a strange light that illuminates the space and transforms it into a place to which everyone desires to go...

God, being born in the stable, tells man: 'You are not alone. I have come to bring you comfort and respite. I have come to transform your poverty into a place where God meets man'...

...Jesus, I ask for a deep conviction that You can save me... I ask for the grace of attentive eyes that see the coming of God... I thank you for the gift of faith that I received at holy baptism...
